Persepolis, Persepolis

Ruin Landmark Must See
With ruins dating back as early as 515 BCE, Persepolis ruins (a World Heritage Site), present a singular look at ancient Persian architecture. The city, built from grey limestone and marble, served as the capital of the Achaemenid Empire, originally built up under the reign of Darius I. Ransacked and pillaged by armies of various empires over the centuries, including by Alexander the Great in 330 BCE, few structures remain intact. Check out the ruins of the gate, with their carved-horse reliefs, and the "Apadana" building, where emperors greeted foreign visitors that contains intricately carved staircases. • Only with the arrival already impressive Grand Avenue, the entrance stairway and then the triumphal entry through the door of the Nations, the rest of the visit is really impressive and a majestic exquisiteness.

  • We arrived before the dawn, and watched the sky slowly colouring as the huge columns and walls of the mighty city emerged from the night. The size of the city is far larger than nay other archaeologic...  more »
  • We stayed at bed and breakfast on Saturday and Sunday. The room was less than half of that in the picture. Breakfast included only juice hot water for you and if you wanted a yogurt all strictly discaunt. Own a foreigner at all ospistale invited us not to smoke (not that we would do anyway) informing us that he sees from the cameras ... the only view was at the entrance. Air conditioner not cold air will warm it oozed. Lack of toiletries. No tv. Phone line does not exist, there was camp and poor wifi Sin because the location is great

  • What an amazing place the carved reliefs are stunning it's worth the trip and then some. They are often paranoid of large bags because of antiquity thefts so be prepared my camera battery ran out my spare forgotten in the car.
  • Spectacular place to visit. Goes back to 2500 years ago. It is interesting to see the remainings of such Persian kingdom.
  • Absolutely a must see when in Iran. From all the antique sites I have ever visited it was one of the less crowded and most enjoyable one.
  • It is a disgrace there is NO public transport to the most famous site in Iran, which leaves you at the mercy of unscrupulous taxis. Having said that, the ancient palace is superb notwithstanding the fire of Alexander.
  • I visited this site when I was 22, it was soooooo impressive
