Palace of Versailles, Versailles

Garden Castle Must See
Considered the most illustrious and opulent castle in all of France, Palace of Versailles exemplifies the most beautiful achievements of French art in the 18th century. This former seat of royal power now chronicles the country's past as a museum of the history of France. On your exploration of the numerous buildings, be sure to see the the lavish Hall of Mirrors, the Queen’s bedchamber, the ecclesiastical chapels, and the King's Grand Apartments. If you love books, don’t miss the library, with its delicately carved wooden and stone panels. In the Clock Room, admire the famous astronomical clock encased in bronze. Arrive as early as possible to avoid long entrance lines. Even with advanced tickets, you'll have to wait your turn at the security checkpoint. Alternatively, book a local guide service to bring you to the château and skip the long lines altogether. • If it is your first castle, you love the places full of history, the Golden and glamorous this is the your place, alternatively by the TOA castles with charm, have them all in a few kilometres and in enclaves out of town I recommend the castles of the Loire in F rancid. Still at Versailles should go. by its grandeur, its gardens and ponds and its history. In days of heat and high season better don't do it, you'll end up exhausted and not enjoy it (with queues and jams). The huge but not as impressive gardens.

  • It was written in the book of the transportation and travel discount tickets had been wrong. Transportation is easy with the help of the staff to repair sectors got the train was able to train and will arrive at the Palace of Versailles, with the slope could get a discount ticket, says there is no such thing, but ask at the hotel. Starting in the morning and arrived at the Chateau de Versailles, bought tickets for the Palace looked forward to a lot of people were already lining the South Korean people. The Palace and its colossal scale, emerged from the Palace Gardens, amazed at the back than the fountain show start time remains the tree walk up from the garden and fountain Gagnon show went into the garden in time for the fountain show and walked a whopping. Garden fountain show on Saturday and only a fixed period of time. By investing a day is enough and worth looking around.

  • My wife's dream was to visit the Chateau de Versailles. So on one recent drizzly Sunday, her dream was fulfilled. But before I go into further detail, let me give some information for visitors with di...  more »
  • Beautiful castle and gardens. Easy to spend a day here just rambling in the various gardens. Try to visit on a day when the fountains are up as they are simply stunning. The rental golf carts make a huge difference if you are going to the far edge of the palace. Even with the cart be prepared to be doing plenty of walking. We easily hit 20K steps on our visit. The tour of the palace is crazy. So many people, many rude and extremely pushy. If you can avoid peak times for your visit to the castle it is much more comfortable and you are able to enjoy the ambience.
  • The palace is in the very beautiful location.A way outside of Paris but if you haven't visit this place you must be missing something. Which you cannot see in Paris. Town itself is very beautiful. Palace of Versailles its a tourist location. Beauty of this palace cannot be Express in words. The entrance gate of Palace is very big and the biggest one I have seen in my life. You have to pay 27 Euro to see what's inside the palace. So please pay and see it.😎😊😉😀
  • The palace is Absolutely most impressive place in France. 18 euro including audio guide which is very good. The palace wow. It's amazing. But need to wait 1-2 hours. The security check is quite slow. Food and drink are expensive. The garden is quite big and nice. But seems like it's not free anymore.
  • The palace of Versailles is amazing. It is such a large structure it is hard to take it in in a very short time. This structure is so large it so beautiful and there is so much to see that it should be planned as a day trip. I cannot Express how beautiful and or inspiring this building and grounds around it are. Its a must see! The city of Versailles beats Paris hands down for a true experience of what France has to offer.
  • The place overflows with grandeur, but... honestly, having done a good amount of castles in a week, the audio guide for this one was pretty bad. It focuses too much on the art and architecture (which I love!) and leaves aside almost completely the history factor. What happened in this castle? How was everyday life? What great events took place here? I was lucky to have a French friend with me who knew a little of the place and its history, because otherwise it would've been a very pointless visit. On the bright side, art is everywhere on this castle. Wherever you look there's a statue, painting, carving or just something that deserves appreciation. There's also plenty of seating spots so you can take your time and really see everything. If you go, keep in mind that the castle visit itself lasts around 1.30h (2 if you do it thoroughly). I recommend getting the access for the Trianon too, bringing some sandwiches to eat in the parks and making a whole day out of it :)

Where to stay in Versailles

Though you can visit the palace of Versailles on a day trip from Paris, travelers interested in exporing outside the château should consider staying in the town of Versailles, Rambouillet, or Fontainebleau. All three of these boast historical centers and a number of accommodations for visitors, from swanky hotels to short-term apartment rentals. You may want to avoid the other nearby towns, like Senlis, which don't offer any lodging in their old town centers. To put yourself within walking distance of the grand palace, pick a spot along the main avenue in the town of Versailles. When staying here, you can experience first-hand what city planners took into consideration when building this new capital.
