Pont Alexandre III, Paris

4.7
#12 of 2,044 in Things to do in Paris
Widely regarded as the most ornate, extravagant bridge in Paris, Pont Alexandre III is an arch bridge spanning the Seine that connects the Champs-Élysées to les Invalides and the Eiffel Tower district. This picturesque bridge, built from 1896 to 1900, features exuberant Art Nouveau lamps and sculptures of cherubs and nymphs at either end. Be sure to look up toward the top of the massive columns to view four gilt-bronze statues of Pegasus held by Fames that watch over the bridge. You'll want to spend an adequate amount of time looking for the hidden images that are carved into the pillars and the arch of the bridge: water spirits, cupids, sea monsters, and more. • Triggered the most beautiful bridge of the river Seine. Next to the Grand and Petit Palais, the Alexander III is also just a few metres from the Eiffel Tower, being arguably more a great place to shoot it.

  • The bridge is a work of art in itself, worth travelling alone to see it, since it is the entrance of the Museum of the Navy, another impressive building in the city, I advise go early before it becomes full of people and the experience is not so nice.

  • This bridge is one of the most beautiful places in Paris. I used it for some of my engagement photos but my fiance and I came back through here several times just to admire the view!
  • I shoot brides and brides to be on this bridge every week during the summer. It's extravagantly designed art deco reliefs and proud statues make it a favorite of most photographers I know. It's mine!
  • DOV: 31Aug2006 Its a beautiful arch bride connecting Eiffel tower on one side. You must have a walk through the same in the evening if you are visiting Paris. There is beautiful dual golden horse statue with the wings on the same.
  • Pont Alexandre III is the most beautiful bridge! I walked over 10 miles zigzagging through Paris to see as much as I could in my 1 day! Take a friend and a camera. I added another great day to my 4 week tour!
  • A stunning bridge with its carvings, gold painted statues, and lamps..A great landmark in Paris ...Great to take photos with the Eiffel Tower at the background..Explore the area around as well..

Where to stay in Paris

Each of the city’s 20 arrondissements, or districts, has a personality all its own. If you prefer high-end accommodations and to be in the middle of the action, look for lodging in the 1st through the 4th arrondissements. For more affordable lodging and access to major metro lines, try the 12th. The Oberkampf area of the 11th arrondissement has an edgier, more hip vibe. For easy access to tourist sites,  the 16th is within a stone’s throw of the Arc de Triomph and the Eiffel Tower, and the 17th is within walking distance to the Champs-Elysées. Avoid the 18th, 19th, and 20th, because these can be dangerous, especially if you’re not familiar with the city.
