We came here to pick you things for a picnic in the park. Fresh bread, fruits and ready to go snacks. Lots of half bottles of wine for the parents.  more »

The Grande Epicerie, it's huge! Virtually everything is what he do best in French gastronomy, see even international for some products. Better to forget his wallet before returning here, otherwise it's the kid assured expense. At each turn, one marvels: the pastry (the apricot tart is a killer), the bakery (the only one in Paris who knows make the bread), the stands, the cannery (the best sardines in oil of the world), the cellar, everything here is magical. Special mention for the jams: it's the cave of Ali Baba! Good visit... and good shopping.

Catering produce and ingredients from France, Italy and many more countries, the range of product is impressive but what is even more impressive is the quality of the products. This is the place where to score rare gems, a must-go for all gourmands!

A food lover's Disneyland. Wow. That's all I can say. Just wow. They have several aisles of yogurts. Myriad butters. A foie gras section. Amazing baked goods. Fantastic selection of wines, cheeses, meats, fruits & vegetables, prepared foods. It's a wonderland of fantastic food. Also, they sell Wine Skins for transporting wine back in your suitcase. My one nit: the "USA" section doesn't paint a pretty (nor accurate) picture of the American diet.... Reese's peanut butter cups, popcorn, cake mixes, Hershey's syrup, beef jerky, Campbell's soup, Pop Tarts... basically a bunch of junk food most Americans don't need to survive. A little odd, that section. Other than that, I love the place. Prices are reasonable on some things, outrageous on others. Example: a Coke costs 0€85 while a can of planters peanuts from the USA section costs 17€. The Coke is a steal compared to other places. The nuts are a rip-off. So, just check the prices. Don't get taken. Overall, the prices weren't outrageous.

Everything you could ever want at a price that is prohibitive for most. The wine selection is tremendous at a markup which is not as bad as others. This is the place to go for all those goodies one misses from home.... wherever home may be.

Where to stay in Paris

Each of the city’s 20 arrondissements, or districts, has a personality all its own. If you prefer high-end accommodations and to be in the middle of the action, look for lodging in the 1st through the 4th arrondissements. For more affordable lodging and access to major metro lines, try the 12th. The Oberkampf area of the 11th arrondissement has an edgier, more hip vibe. For easy access to tourist sites,  the 16th is within a stone’s throw of the Arc de Triomph and the Eiffel Tower, and the 17th is within walking distance to the Champs-Elysées. Avoid the 18th, 19th, and 20th, because these can be dangerous, especially if you’re not familiar with the city.
